How campus feels out of term time
For anyone who has never endured the emptiness that comes with a summer break spent on campus while all of your friends are at home with their families or sunning it up on exotic holidays, I thought I’d attempt to share the rollercoaster of emotions that such isolation often brings. Obviously, the best platform to display the spectrum of human emotion is (and will always be) GIFs of Leonardo DiCaprio.
For a while, you start to see campus in a whole new light. You notice things about it that were previously hidden by hoards of unruly young adults. The grass is greener, the skies are bluer, the Learning Zone is redder.

You quickly realise that with no one around, you’re basically running the show. Even the porters can’t shut you down now (although they totally could if they wanted to; porters are all-seeing and all-knowing).

Plus, being alone all the time means that you have no need to concern yourself with social norms, like manners. You can eat your Subway like an absolute raving madman if you really want and no one ever needs to know (apart from the poor guy that’s gawking at you from behind the counter).

Then, eventually, someone comes to visit and it’s pretty much the best thing ever. As excited as you might be to see them, always remember: Hustle out of term time is even more grim than Hustle during term time.

There is a pretty good chance that by the time anyone graces you with their presence, you will have completely forgotten how to socialise and have taken up your place on the spectrum of quite awkward to completely feral.

Fear not though; eventually people come back and campus goes back to normal, so you’re never going to have to be on your own for too long.
