Kenzo x H&M
Oh to be a student… Stuck writing thousands words worth of essays, hungover for days on end, and our financial statements buried deep within our overdrafts. Despite the new Primark in town saving me pennies thanks to its discounted styles, a girl can only fight through the crowds of locals so many Saturday’s before a sense of dread settles in.
Well, fashion lovers despair no more! Don your designer glad rags at high street prices thanks to H&M’s latest designer collaboration. “Who with?” I hear you ask. None other than Kenzo.
This isn’t the first time the high street fashion powerhouse that is Hennes & Mauritz has paired up with a designer brand before. H&M has previously handed over the reigns to names including Balmain, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, Versace and Alexander Wang, all of whom have created unique collections available at seriously reduced prices compared to the usual offerings from their own fashion houses.
The Parisian brand, Kenzo, is known for graphic prints, bold colours and fierce slogans and logos. Carol Lim, joint creative director at Kenzo alongside Humberto Leon, summed up the brand in five words, “Print. Colour. Freedom. Fun. Kenzo!”
And they’re not giving anything less for their high street collection. Full of faux fur coats, tiered dresses and skirts and more tiger print than you’d spot in the jungle, this collection is the true essence of Kenzo. There’s even slogan printed, leather elbow length gloves! Would I wear them? No. Will I try my hardest to get them? Probably!
If the actual fashions aren’t enough, the campaign is more than I can bear. Featuring stars including Iman, the 61-year-old supermodel widow of David Bowie, she used her role as ambassador to discuss her position as an activist for refugees. Originally from Somalia, she herself fled her homeland for Kenya as a child amid political unrest.
Other unique celebrities also star, including Chance The Rapper, Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and climate change activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez. It really is an eclectic and exciting fashion campaign.
Add in the fact that it’s affordable and it’s checking fashion boxes all around.
Oh to be a student… Lie ins every day of the week, pressures of the real world year(s) away, and the Kenzo and H&M collaboration available as of November 3rd.
