Cricketers defeated in tense final over

1 min read

York 190-7 beat Lancaster 188 by 3 wickets
Lancaster and York contested a keenly fought opening contest of this year’s Roses, with the
visitors clinching victory in a nail-biting final over.

Lancaster won the toss and elected to bat, a decision which looked ominous at 2-1 in the
third over. However, superb batting from Kiran (58) and Hasnain (22) stabilised the innings.
Following a middle-order collapse it was left to Walton (20) to add vital late runs; Lancaster
eventually all-out for 188.

York’s reply got off to a poor start and by the 6th over they had been reduced to 25-3.
However a knock of 65 from Kirkwood allowed the tail to bring York home with three balls to
Spare.
