What do students want for Christmas?
What does a student really want for Christmas? As you get older and potentially lose faith in the magic, the type of presents you want drastically change too. In general, your family mean well, and so do your home friends, but sometimes they don’t quite grasp what it is that a student would really appreciate Santa leaving in their stocking. So I’ve compiled a list of 6 things a student would love to receive for Christmas, whether Santa can bring them or not.
A career plan

The question that frightens students everywhere is “So what are you going to do after University?” – save me the seasonal awkwardness and give me an idea for the rest of my working life. Have mercy Mr. Claus, it would make family gatherings that bit less tiresome if I actually had an answer.
A Netflix subscription

This is a more earthly possibility- why not aid and abet your friend’s procrastination by paying for their Netflix? Go on, be a mate – there’s 5 seasons of Breaking Bad I still haven’t watched.
Socks

It’s cold, and utilities are expensive, so socks make a fantastic present. Buy a few novelty pairs, and give them to a friend this season. Christmassy ones are encouraged, but holiday neutral pairs are also much appreciated.
A love life

University is difficult, home is often far away and love can be elusive. It’s not for everyone, but Santa, we’d be grateful if you could just pop a soulmate under the tree this year. Gift wrap optional. Thanks in advance.
A sense of purpose

To have some idea of what I want to do with my life, and some assurance that the three years I’m spending at University will be worth it, would be a real relief. Santa can bring that, right?
To pay off the student loans

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m heading towards over £40,000 of debt. If by some Christmas magic all of that was wiped clean, I’d believe in Santa Claus.
Other presents that could come under the heading of ‘stocking fillers’ would include bottle openers (always handy) handheld recorders so you can record lectures, HDMI cables to connect your laptop to your TV (for that procrastination we talked about), and chocolate. Chocolate is literally always a great gift.
But remember people, whatever Santa does or does not bring you this year, we’ve all already had the greatest present any student could wish for. Thanks to that slightly inconvenient flood and blackout, deadlines have been extended. IT’S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
