Women’s indoor hockey 1sts ends tied

After a win and a loss for both Lancaster’s 2nd indoor hockey teams, it was the women who first stepped up to the oche for the 1st teams. Last year was a climatic 2-2 thriller, so expectation was high to go one better.

From the offset, it was clear that it was impossible to predict the outcome of this game. Lancaster started strongly, but for every goal they scored, York pegged them back. It was end to end action, unlike last year, where York dominated early, but a spirited Lancaster fightback halted them.

York eventually took the lead, scoring two despite Hannah Chetwynd in the Lancaster goal pulling off some stunning saves. York seemed to be in control for the second half, hitting the post and also missing a sitter. Lancaster wouldn’t give up, and slotted home an equaliser courtesy of Chelsea Atkinson. The home side had the advantage and ascendancy, but couldn’t turn this into anything more than a draw. York would probably be more disappointed with the draw having led with just minutes to go, but Lancaster’s grit and determination meant that they ended with a performance to be proud of.
